Punjabi mushaira and Faiz Ahmad Poetry Competition at GCUniversity

Lahore:March 23:A Punjabi mushaira and the Faiz Ahmad Faiz Poetry Competition were held at the Government College University Lahore to mark World Poetry Day. Most of the poetry and song competitions were won by teams of the University of Engineering and Technology. Earlier, noted Punjabi poets from all over Pakistan presented their poetry at the Mushaira, while students from 22 universities participated in the competition.

A ceremony at GC university to distribute laptops in 38 MPhil

Lahore:March 18:A ceremony was held in Lahore sub-campus of a university to distribute laptops in 38 MPhil students under the Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme here on Friday. Punjab Minister for Higher Education Syed Raza Ali Gillani was the chief guest of the ceremony. Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) Chairman Dr Mohammad Nizamuddin was also present.

GC University, Kinniard University,PU take part in a music Competition.

Lahore:February 18:Tribute will be paid to great musicians of Pakistan on October 19 at Bagh e Jinnah, Open Air Theatre. Students of Government College University Lahore, Kinniard College University, National College of Arts, Punjab University and other institutions will take part in a music competition. The singers will sing songs of great and legendary musicians of Pakistan.

GC University a Role Model institution

Lahore:February 13:A ceremony was organised in honour of Old Ravians Union office-bearers by College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) Senior Vice-President of and old Ravian Prof Khalid Masood Gondal. According to a press release issued here on Sunday, Justice Shahram Sarwar was the chief guest at the event. Qazi Affaq Hussain, president, Old Ravians Union, Rana Asad Ullah, general secretary, Akhlaq Tarrar, federal secretary and Prof Farid Khan, chairman, Shaikh Zaid Hospital, were also present.

Minister sees urgent need to revisit education at GC University

Lahore:January 21:The second and third session of Government College University’s 15th convocation was held here on Friday in which two famous international sportswomen of Pakistan, Sidra Amin and Zara Ahmad Khan, were awarded their postgraduate degrees and prestigious rolls of honour in sports. Punjab Minister for Education Syed Raza Ali Gillani and Minister for Schools Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan chaired the second and third session of the convocation, in which 608 BA/BSc (Hons) and 314 MA/MSc students received their degrees, academic medals and co-curricular/sports rolls of honour.

Rs1 million donated to GCUniversity fund

Lahore:January 07:Prof Dr Nusrat Jahan, former chairperson of Government College University (GCU) Lahore Zoology Department, has donated Rs 1 million to the university’s Endowment Fund Trust (GCU-EFT) for the scholarships of the financially-challenged orphan students. Prof Nusrat Jahan handed over the donation cheque to Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Hassan Amir Shah at a ceremony at GCU. EFT Executive Committee Secretary Dr Khalid Manzoor Butt was also present, according to a press release issued here on Friday.

World Philosophy Day discussion at GCUniversity

Lahore:December 09: A panel discussion on the topic “Self-Actualisation and Authenticity” was held at the Government College University (GCU) in connection with the World Philosophy Day on Thursday. Prof Dr Mirza Ather Baig, eminent philosopher and writer of famous novel Ghulam Bagh (The Garden of Slaves), chaired the panel discussion organised by Lahore Philosophy Department and Brett Philosophical Society. GCU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Hassan Amir Shah and philosopher poet Dr Alwin Vincent Murad spoke.

GCUniversity Poster Contest

Lahore:November 30:In order to sensitise students about the environmental issues, Inter-Departmental Poster Competition was organised by the Government College University (GCU) Biological Society on Tuesday.

As many 34 posters were put on display by the students of different departments on the six different themes including Progress at Nature's Expense, Biodiversity/Wildlife Conservation, Global Warming, Dwindling Water Resources and Renewable energy resources.

GC University scientists modify mosquito to Check Dengue

Lahore:October 15:Government College University (GCU) on Friday announced achieving a major breakthrough as its medical entomologists successfully genetically modified the Aedes aegypti mosquito in order to block the transmission of dengue virus to humans.

The varsity’s Zoology Department announced that “the research has good potential to completely eradicate the dengue vectors and virus from Pakistan, saving thousands of precious lives.”

GC University debating society bagged 270 national awards

Lahore:October 05: Government College University Debating Society (GCUDS) has bagged 270 national oratory awards during the academic year 2015-16.

The laurels include 50 coveted team trophies, 9 runners-up trophies, 2 third-position trophies, 93 best speaker awards, 65 second-position awards, 48 third-position and 3 consolation prizes, which were won at various declamation, parliamentary, recitation and poetry competitions at the national level.
