Rs15.7m donated to GC University for scholarships

LAHORE:11May:The Old Ravians and philanthropists donated about Rs 15.7 million to the Government College University’s Endowment Fund Trust (GCU-EFT) at the Annual Scholarship Distribution and Fundraising Dinner 2017 for the scholarships of the university’s financially-challenged students. Eminent nuclear scientist Dr Samar Mubarikmand was the chief guest at the ceremony to which donors were invited to meet the students who are being benefited from their donations.

PHEC, GCU ink MoU on PhD scholarship programme

LAHORE:June 10:Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) and Government College University (GCU) signed an MoU here on Friday to launch International Split PhD Scholarship Programme for the faculty of public sector colleges and universities of Punjab. PHEC Chairman Prof Dr Mohammad Nizamuddin and GCU Lahore Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Hassan Amir Shah signed the 33-point MoU regarding funding, eligibility criteria and other initial standard operating procedures for the new international programme.

Technology, art festival begins at GC University

LAHORE:May 16:A three-day All Pakistan Technology and Art Festival 2017 (APTA'17) organised by the Government College University Computer Sciences Department began on Monday. As many as 350 students from more than 15 educational institutions are participating in the competitions including Coding, Project Development, Graphic Designing, Calligraphy Typography, E-Gaming Championship, Scavenger Hunt, Concept Machine and Sky Lanterns etc. A one-minute Talent Hunt is also part of the grand festival.

Rs1m donated to GCUniversity

Lahore:10 May:Dr Zahir Ahmed Siddiqi, the 83-year-old eminent poet, writer and distinguished professor of Persian language, has donated Rs1 million to the Government College University’s Endowment Fund Trust (GCU-EFT) to initiate a perpetual golden scholarship in the name of his late father, “Molvi Shafique Ahmad Siddiqi”. The scholarship would be given to a financially-challenged student of BA (Hons) Islamic Studies every year on merit.

Life of Galileo’ staged at GC University

LAHORE:May 6:Government College University’s Dramatic Club (GCUDC) presented Brecht's play “Life of Galileo” at the university's Bukhari stage here on Friday.

The performance of the students received a loud applause by the city's literati, Old Ravians, students and faculty members.

The action of the play, directed by GCUDC President Mariam Hassan Naqvi under the guidance of eminent philosopher Prof Mirza Ather Baig, follows the career of the Italian philosopher Galileo Galilei who is tried by the Roman Catholic Church for the promulgation of his scientific discoveries.

GCUniversity book fair gets warm response

LAHORE:20 April:Government College University Lahore Library Society has organised a two-day book fair at the University’s Abdus Salam Hall in connection with the World Book Day celebrated every year on April 23. According to a press release issued here on Wednesday, a good number of national and international publishers, including the Oxford University Press, have set up their stalls at the book fair, which received a warm response from students and faculty members on the opening day on Wednesday. Eminent writer Dr Tariq Rahman inaugurated the book fair.

Hamid Mir given lifetime achievement award at GC University

LAHORE: The annual reunion of the Old Ravians was held at the Government College University’s Oval Ground on Saturday night. Former prime minister and Old Ravian Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali was the chief guest at the grand event which was also marked by a music concert and a lifetime achievement award to eminent journalist and Old Ravian Hamid Mir. Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique and a large bureaucrats, politicians, artists and academicians also attended the reunion dinner.

GC University intellectual property Workshop

LAHORE:April 14:A one-day training workshop was held on Thursday at the Government College University (GCU), Lahore on ‘Intellectual Property’ to guide the university faculty and postgraduate scholars in registering their intellectual property rights i.e. patents, copyrights, trademarks and industrial designs. According to a press release issued here, the workshop was organised by the university’s Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) in collaboration with the Intellectual Property Organisation (IPO)-Pakistan, a government body working under the Commerce Division.
