Lahore:19 April: Eminent scientist Prof Dr Muhammad Afzal has donated his personal library comprised of valuable publications to the Government College University Lahore for the benefit of students and researchers. According to a press release issued Wednesday, Prof Dr Muhammad Afzal is currently Professor Emeritus at the University of Kuwait. His personal library had very valuable reference books, textbooks, journals, conference proceedings of different scientific subjects including microbiology, biotechnology, and bio-chemistry.
LAHORE:16 April: Former Chief of Army Staff Gen (Retd) Raheel Sharif has donated Rs 2 million to Government College University’s Endowment Fund Trust (GCU-EFT) from which the university will initiate two perpetual golden scholarships financially-challenged students.
LAHORE:21 March: In order to promote cultural and religious harmony in the society, Mental Health Week celebrations began on Tuesday at the Government College University (GCU) under the theme “Psychology of Religion and Culture.” GCU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Hassan Amir Shah chaired the inaugural session which included the Inter-Universities Poster Competition. Some 121 psychology students from different institutions took part in the poster competition and displayed posters.
LAHORE :18 March:The three-day sixth international conference on education titled as “Beyond Classroom” concluded at University of Education Speakers at the Ravians Literary Festival at Government College University (GCU) on Saturday highlighted the need to protect tangible and intangible cultural heritage of Lahore. “We understand the change is inevitable but it should not be at the cost of cultural heritage,” said Architect Nayyar Ali Dada while addressing the opening session of the festival on “Evolution of Lahore”.
LAHORE:March 16:University (GCU) on Thursday organised a seminar “Dare to Dream” to motivate students especially the girls to follow their dreams in life. According to a press release, former Pakistan women cricket team captain Ms. Marina Iqbal and noted poet Ahmad Hammad shared the motivational stories of their success and advised the students to work harder to turn their dreams into reality. The seminar was followed by training session to make students aware of the requirements of employers.
LAHORE: The alumni reunion of Government College University Political Science Department (GCU-PSD) was held here on Sunday evening. The reunion was marked by a musical performance of a little Chinese girl, Lee Jai, who mesmerised the audience by singing national songs of Pakistan in Urdu language. LAHORE:February 24: Government College University (GCU) Friday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with University of Tehran, Iran for academic and research cooperation in Urdu literature. Government College University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Hassan Amir Shah and University of Tehran Department of Urdu literature Chairperson Dr Muhammad Kiou Marsi signed the accord. GCU Dean Faculty of Languages Prof Dr Iqbal Shahid, Urdu Department Chairperson Dr Khalid Sanjrani and other officials were also present on the occasion.
LAHORE:February 21: Government College University (GCU) here on Tuesday organised a ceremony to celebrate the Chinese New Year. GCU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Hassan Amir Shah was the chief guest at the ceremony organised by the university’s Centre of Excellence, China Studies (CECS). The day-long festivity was marked by Chinese music and pictorial cultural exhibition whereas a large number of Chinese teachers and businessmen of the city also addressed the ceremony and briefed the participants about the Chinese culture, customs, lifestyle and traditions.

Veteran human rights activist IA Rehman, noted poet Amjad Islam Amjad, art professor Ms Salima Hashmi, noted playwright Asghar Nadeem Syed, PHEC Chairperson Prof Dr Mohammad Nizamuddin, GCU Vice Chancellor Prof Hassan Amir Shah, and close relatives of Munnu Bhai addressed the condolence reference organised by the Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC).
LAHORE:February 13: The Mustafa Mohyuddin Syed Memorial Fund Monday donated Rs2.5 million to the Government College University Endowment Fund Trust (GCU-EFT) for the scholarships of financially-challenged students. Trustees of the memorial fund Rukhshanda Wasif and Rafia Hussain handed over the donation cheque to GCU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Hassan Amir Shah here. GCU-EFT trustees Mian Misbah-ur-Rehman and Zia Haider Rizvi and Executive Committee Secretary Prof Dr Khalid Manzoor Butt were present.
LAHORE:February 8: The Times Higher Education Asian University Rankings 2018 Wednesday ranked the Government College University (GCU) 351+ in its latest rating. The GCU, last July, was ranked 1001+ in worldwide rankings by Times Higher Education. However, in the worldwide list, GCU had stood 683rd on the basis of its international outlook among all the world universities. “We have been sending data to Times Higher Education for many years, but it was the first time in July 2017 and second time in February 2018 that GCU was listed among international universities,”

A large number of physicists from Pakistan’s leading universities and R&D organisations are participating in this three-day event which will have 27 technical sessions on different topics including condensed matter physics, high energy particle physics, nanotechnology, cosmology, atomic & molecular physics, lasers, plasma physics & controlled fusion. About 82 physicists are presenting talks and papers at the symposium highlighting the recent important developments in physics and the impact of these developments on various aspects of our lives.
