LAHORE:22 January:Government College University (GCU) has introduced a biometric attendance system on a trial basis for intermediate students. GCU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Asghar Zaidi stated this while addressing the faculty of intermediate studies at the university’s Faiz Seminar Hall. The GCU faculty deans and the intermediate studies director were also present.

LAHORE :18 January:First time in its history, Government College University (GCU) has offered admissions to students in 11 foreign and national language courses, including Hindi, French, Russian, Turkish and German. A notification in this regard has been issued on the direction of Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Asghar Zaidi who believes in promoting effective engagement of youths in academic as well as co-curricular activities.

LAHORE:16 January:The Punjab Planning and Development Board (P&DB) and Government College University (GCU) Lahore are going to set up the Social Policy Advisory Board (SPAB) and the Social Policy Advisory Council through Education (SPACE) for research, evidence generation and dissemination, reviews and assessment of public sector programmes on social sector development, public financial management and governance.
LAHORE:15 January: Government College University (GCU) Zoology Department’s research on “transfection of locally isolated Wolbachia in Aedes aegypti” has won the first prize and cash award of Rs 100,000 at international conference on "Dengue Prevention and Control" organised by the Punjab government here at a local hotel. Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid handed over the cash award to principal researcher Prof Dr Nusrat Jahan at the concluding ceremony of the conference held under the auspices of provincial Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department.

LAHORE:20 December: The faculty and staff members of the Government College University (GCU) celebrated the Christmas with the university’s minority community at a colorful ceremony at the Bukhari Auditorium here on Thursday. The stage was especially decorated in a traditional style with lights, balloons, flowers, flags and a Christmas tree. GCU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Asghar Zaidi, Registrar Saboor Ahmed Khan and Prof Dr Sultan Shah cut the Christmas cake with the university’s Christian staff, students and faculty members.
LAHORE:12 December:A memorandum of understating (MoU) was singed here on Wednesday between two prestigious institutions of metropolitan, i.e. Government College University Lahore and Lahore Art Council for promotion and encouragement of artistic and cultural endeavors among youths. GCU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Asghar Zaidi and Lahore Art Council (LAC) Executive Director Ather Ali Khan signed the accord at a graceful ceremony organised by the GCU Directorate of Academic Planning and External Links (AP&EL) at the university’s Meeting Rooms.
LAHORE:13 November: The Ministry of National Health Services, Regulation and Coordination (NHSRC) has included seven major programmes of the King Edward Medical University in the Schedule III of Gazette and notified the same accordingly. The programmes include PhD Anatomy, PhD Community Medicine, PhD Biochemistry, MPhil Community Medicine, MPhil Public Health, Masters in Public Health and MD Hematology.
Lahore:13 November: Prof Dr Asghar Zaidi, the Vice Chancellor of Government College University (GCU) Lahore, has met Pakistani Ambassador to USA Dr Asad Majeed Khan at Washington, DC and sought his support and facilitation for establishing research and academic linkages with the top American universities. According to a press release issued by the university on Tuesday, the Vice Chancellor was on a three-day trip to America where he was invited by the US National Academy of Medicine to address a workshop on Social, Behavioral, & Environmental Enablers for Healthy Longevity.
LAHORE:13 November:The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has constituted a fact finding committee to probe into the allegations of irregularities in the Foreign Faculty Hiring Programme (FFHP) at GCU Lahore’s Abdus Salam School of Mathematical Sciences. According to a press release, the committee will also review the operation of FFHP at other universities. The three-member committee will probe the matter and will submit its recommendation to the competent authority within one month.

LAHORE:05 November:Government College University’s Nazir Ahmad Music Society (GCU-NAMS) has clean swept the All Pakistan Music Conference (APMC) with overall nine distinctions and also lifted the prestigious Syed Wajid Ali Trophy. “It’s a great achievement for the Ravians as we have set a new record by winning the 48-year-old running team trophy for the tenth time. No other institution has done it better in the history of APMC,” said Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Asghar Zaidi while congratulating the winning team and Tariq Farani, in-charge of NAMS.
