Teachers protest PPSC condition for regularisation

LAHORE:22 January: A large number of schoolteachers blocking the main road outside the Punjab Civil Secretariat strongly protested against the School Education Department for “ignoring” the issues faced by the teachers, including the condition of Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) for regularisation of their services. The demonstration which continued for quite some time caused severe traffic mess on Lower Mall, The Mall and other adjacent roads and localities. The demo was held on the call of Muttahida Mahaz Asataza Punjab (MMAP).

PU schedule for submission of admission forms for BA/BSc Annual Exam

Lahore:22 January: Punjab University (PU) has issued the schedule for submission of admission forms and fee for Associate Degree Arts/Science and BA/BSc Annual Examination 2020. The last date of submission of admission forms for Associate Degree in Arts/Science Part-I (for the candidates who passed Intermediate Examination in Supplementary Examination 2019), Associate Degree in Science, Special Categories (MBBS, BDS, Pharm-D, and General Nursing) and BA/BSc (Composite/Improve Division) is Feb 12, 2020 while the forms can be submitted with double fee till Feb 17.

GC University to open intermediate admission for girls soon

LAHORE:22 January:Government College University (GCU) has introduced a biometric attendance system on a trial basis for intermediate students. GCU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Asghar Zaidi stated this while addressing the faculty of intermediate studies at the university’s Faiz Seminar Hall. The GCU faculty deans and the intermediate studies director were also present.

University of Health Sciences approves affiliation of 29 institutes

LAHORE:21 January: The syndicate of University of Health Sciences (UHS) has approved the affiliation of 29 institutes for start of 56 new postgraduate and undergraduate programmes. The 58th meeting of UHS Syndicate was held here on Monday with Vice Chancellor Prof Javed Akram in the chair. The other members who were present included Prof Talat Naseer Pasha, Prof Khawaja Sadiq Hussain, Prof Humaira Akram, Prof Nadia Naseem, Prof Nasir Shah, Dr Asad Zaheer and representatives of Punjab Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education (SHC&ME) and Finance departments.

Virtual University inaugurated its new Data Centre in Lahore

Lahore: 21 January:Rector Naeem Tariq, Ehsen Zafar Puri, Director ICT, principal officers, deans, directors and staff of the university attended the ceremony. Focal person of the data center, Engr Syed Naushad, said, “This data center complies with security and threat advisories received from time to time from HEC and other government security agencies. The data center has been established indigenously, saving millions of rupees for the university,” he added.

University of Engineering alumni-funded computer lab inaugurated

LAHORE:18 January:The inauguration ceremony for the alumni-funded computer lab was held at Mechatronics and Control Engineering Department of University of Engineering and Technology (UET) here on Friday. UET Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Syed Mansoor Sarwar inaugurated the lab funded by the university’s alumni. Prof Dr Syed Mansoor Sarwar expressed his gratitude to the alumni for raising over Rs 4 million for purchase of 45 brand new computers.

GC University offers admission to 11 language courses

LAHORE :18 January:First time in its history, Government College University (GCU) has offered admissions to students in 11 foreign and national language courses, including Hindi, French, Russian, Turkish and German. A notification in this regard has been issued on the direction of Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Asghar Zaidi who believes in promoting effective engagement of youths in academic as well as co-curricular activities.

US university official visits University of Veterinary Sciences

Lahore:17 January:A delegate from University of Oklahoma, the US, visited University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) City Campus and called on Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Masood Rabbani. According to a press release, the delegate, Dr Ali Imran, agreed to collaborate with UVAS in future. The UVAS VC briefed him about the UVAS academic, research and training programmes, clinical services, diagnostic lab facilities, national and international collaborations and other curricular and extra-curricular activities.

Canada-based poet for truthful verses at launch of six collections

Lahore:17 January:It was a unique launch ceremony that was held at the Arts Council of Pakistan on Thursday night – for a total of six collections of poetry by a poet were launched at the event. The publication of six books by the same person at the same time must sound strange, but upon knowing that the poet lived in Canada and had decided to have all her poetry that she had composed over around two decades, one finds her six books coming out together alright.

P&DB, GC University to collaborate Education for research

LAHORE:16 January:The Punjab Planning and Development Board (P&DB) and Government College University (GCU) Lahore are going to set up the Social Policy Advisory Board (SPAB) and the Social Policy Advisory Council through Education (SPACE) for research, evidence generation and dissemination, reviews and assessment of public sector programmes on social sector development, public financial management and governance.

Punjab University, US university sign MoU to promote education

LAHORE:16 January:Punjab University and Michigan State University (MSU), the US, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to promote education and training with regard to the psychiatric and psychological issues of students. The MoU signing ceremony was held at Vice Chancellor’s Office in which PU VC Prof Niaz Ahmad, MSU’s Assistant Prof Dr Farha Abbasi, Faculty of Life Sciences Dean Prof Dr Firdaus-e-Bareen, External Linkages Director Dr Sobia Khuram and Institute of Applied Psychology (IAP) Associate Professor Dr Rafia Rafique were also present.
