BISE facing crisis in absence of chairman

Lahore:December 31 The post of chairman of Sahiwal Board of Intermediate & Secondary Education (BISE) has been vacant for over a month and no one has so far been given the charge to look after the board’s affairs. For the last one month the examination board which caters to students of Sahiwal Division for their matriculation and intermediate level examinations and affiliation of public and private colleges of the Division has been facing a kind of “administrative crisis” in the absence of the top administrator.

Rs180m grant released to set up NUST’s Sialkot campus’

SIALKOT: January 30: Federal Minister for Defence, Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif has said the government has released a special grant of Rs180 million as fist installment for establishing the Sialkot campus of the National University of Science and Technology (NUST). He was talking to the media here on Sunday. MNA Armughan Subhani, MLA-AJK Muhammad Ishaq, local bodies minister Mansha Ullah Butt, MPAs Muhammad Iram, Arshad Javaid Warraich, Tariq Akhtar Subhani and District Council Chairperson Ms Hina Arshad Warraich were also present.

Examination duties may become essential service

Lahore: January 30: At the request of boards of intermediate and secondary education (BISEs) and textbook boards across the country, the federal government may recommend the provinces to declare examination-related duties -- supervisory and evaluation -- as essential service.The BISEs from all provinces, mainly Punjab, face refusals from experienced and competent teachers, educationists etc for performing jobs as invigilators, supervisors and superintendents (supervisory duties) in annual and supplementary matric and intermediate examinations and as paper setters, checkers, examiners etc (eval

513 charge nurses have assumed their duty in Lahore General Hospital

Lahore: January 30: As many as 513 charge nurses have assumed their duty in Lahore General Hospital after their selection by the Punjab Public Service Commission. “The recruitment of these nurses has provided employment to hundreds of families and it would enhance the standard of healthcare in the hospital,” said Post Graduate Medical Institute and Lahore General Hospital Principal Prof Ghias-un-Nabi Tayyab, according to a handout issued on Sunday.

Majority of teachers to boycott Exam duties

Lahore: January 30: The conduct of Punjab Examination Commission upcoming class-5 annual examination starting from Feb 2 will not be less than a challenge as a majority of schoolteachers have already announced boycotting the examination duties. The schoolteachers under United Teachers Council (UTC) had recently announced boycotting the PEC exams related duties as a protest against the Punjab government for ignoring their plight vis-à-vis disciplinary action against teachers, imposition of heavy fines, non-upgrade of posts, initiation of inquiries and privatisation of public schools etc.

Seminar on environment in Punjab University

Lahore:January 28:Punjab University College of Earth and Environmental Sciences (CEES) in collaboration with Ministry of Climate Change on Friday organised a seminar on “Hydro-Chloro-Fluoro Carbon (HCFCs) Phase Out in Pakistan." CEES Principal Prof Dr Sajid Rashid Ahmad, Iftikhar ul Hassan and Dr Zaigham Abbas from Ministry of Climate Change, Luqman Malik from Punjab Higher Education Commission, faculty members, researchers and a large number of students were present. Dr Sajid and Dr Faiza Mazhar gave a presentation on the topic.

Information Technology University

Lahore:January 28: A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between Information Technology University (ITU) and Digital Financial Services Research Group (DFSRG), University of Washington, Seattle, the US, to establish a pioneering FinTech Research Centre in Pakistan. ITU Vice-Chancellor Dr Umar Saif along with DFSRG head and professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, University of Washington, Dr Richard signed the MoU here on Firday for research into the financial technology space for improvement of access, creation and adoption of digital financial services.

Punjab University VC asked to ensure merit for teachers welfare

Lahore:January 28:Punjab University’s Teachers Front (PU-TF) has warned the new Vice-Chancellor Dr Zafar Mueen Nasar that if he didn’t implement the merit policy announced by him the academic staff association would stand against him for the welfare of the teacher community. Punjabi language case disposed of

Lahore:January 28:The Lahore High Court chief justice on Friday disposed of a petition of Pakistan Punjabi Adabi Board against banning the use of Punjabi language on its Sahiwal campus by a famous private school. The headmaster of the school campus concerned appeared before the court and submitted an unconditional apology in writing for his action. The chief justice accepted the apology and disposed of the petition.

A high-level meeting presided over by Acting PU Vice-Chancellor was held at Committee Room of VC’s office here on Thursday to review arrangements in this regard.
