LUMS Hires new Faculty Members

Lahore:September 25:The Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) has hired two new full-time faculty members – Dr Martin Wilhelm Lau and Dr Jawad Syed – for the academic year 2016-17.

Dr Martin has joined the varsity as the inaugural professor of law and dean of the Shaikh Ahmad Hassan School of Law (SAHSOL). Dr Jawad has joined as a professor (tenure track) in the Suleman Dawood School of Business (SDSB).

Pakistan to have first fee-free Varsity’

Lahore:September 25:Pakistan’s first fee-free university will be established soon by a non-governmental organisation, which is also running the largest interest-free micro-financing programme in the country, said executive director of the Akhuwat Pakistan, Dr Muhammad Amjad Saqib on Saturday.

He was speaking as the keynote speaker at a moot titled “Dialogue on success and challenges in CSR” organised by the National Forum for Environment and Health.

BISP, AKU consider collaboration for neonatal health

Lahore:September 25:Agha Khan University has appreciated efforts of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) and expressed its willingness to work with the programme for running a successful Waseela-e-Sehat scheme for its beneficiaries.

This was stated by Professor Dr Rozina Karmaliani, project director who was leading the Agha Khan University Foundation Delegation, during a visit to the BISP Sindh Regional Office here on Friday. Punjab University security

Lahore:September 25: Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran on Saturday chaired a high level meeting at Al Raazi Hall to review security arrangements of the university. Heads of all teaching and non-teaching departments participated in the meeting. According to a press release issued here on Saturday, the meeting reviewed SOPs to ensure tightened security on campus. The PU VC instructed all heads of departments to comply with the SOPs issued by the government strictly and remain vigilant.The news.

English speaking skills : TEVTA to get 100 trainers

Lahore:September 24:British Council will provide 100 master trainers to Technical Educational and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) to improve the English speaking skills of teachers and students of the authority across the province.

A statement issued on Friday quoted TEVTA Chairperson Irfan Qaiser Sheikh as saying that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) will be signed so the spoken English course starts soon.

Lahore Early Childhood Education Classrooms in 1,000 schools

Lahore:September 24:The Directorate of Staff Development has planned to establish Early Childhood Education (ECE) classrooms in 1,000 schools in the province by next year under an approved PC-1 and government intends to make ECE system effective through supporting partners such as World Bank which intends to develop ECE classrooms in the province.

Tevta to train drivers

Lahore :September 22:Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (Tevta) with the collaboration of City traffic police will train 1,500 drivers annually. This training programme will be started from next month.

It was stated by Tevta Chairperson Irfan Qaiser Sheikh while talking to Chief Traffic Officer Tayyab Hafeez Cheema during his visit at Tevta Secretariat on Wednesday. Tevta officers Aamir Aziz, Mustafa Kamal Pasha, Uzma Nadia, Umber Chattha, Sarfraz Anwar and others were also present on this occasion.

World Peace Day observed

Rawalpindi:September 22:schools celebrated ‘World Peace Day’ to express their feelings, ideas and visions of a peaceful world by holding poster competition, poetry competition, essay competition, tableau competition and speech competition on the theme ‘Citizenship- How can we contribute to make our community better.’

AIOU specific programmes for Females

Lahore:September 22:Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has launched most-specific educational programmes for the interest of females, enabling them to earn their livelihood and contribute to socio-economic development of the country.

The programs are mainly relating to community education, agriculture farming, gender and women studies, health and nutrition and marketing of home-made goods. These programs are from basic to M.Sc level for which the admission date for spring semester, 2016 has been extended till September 30, without late fee.

University of Engineering Admissions

Lahore:September 21:University of Engineering and Technology (UET) on Tuesday announced that application forms for undergraduate admissions can be submitted till September 26.

A UET spokesperson said the applicants who had appeared in the Combined Entry Test 2016 conducted by UET on July 17, 2016 and secured at least 60 percent marks in FSc, BSc and B-Tech and passed with 50 percent aggregate marks were eligible to apply.
