Lahore Inter Student suicide over 'disappointing' marks in exams

Lahore: An 18-year-old youth committed suicide after he failed to obtain satisfactory marks in the FSc exams in the Mughalpura police precincts on Saturday. The deceased was identified as Hafiz Jameel Afzal, a resident of Nishtar Park, Larex Colony. Family members of the deceased said Jameel had promised his family that he would get 90 percent marks in the FSc exams and if he failed to do so, he would commit suicide. On Saturday morning, when he saw his result that he had obtained only 523 marks, third division, he got disappointed and locked himself in a room and shot himself on his temple.

Police said he had died on the spot. However, his family members rushed him to a nearby hospital where the doctors pronounced him dead. It is pertinent to mention that almost less than a month ago, a Matriculation student, Ali, of Amin Park, Shafiqabad, had committed suicide by swallowing piousness pills after failing in the exams. Separately, a 40-year-old prisoner died under mysterious circumstances at Kot Lakhpat Jail on Saturday. The deceased was identified as Shoaib. Police investigators said the deceased was suffering from an illness since a few days. The jail administration, however, shifted him to a nearby hospital where he breathed his last.
