Lahore: Students of the Government College University (GCU) stole the show on Saturday during the announcement of results of the Lahore Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) annual examinations for Intermediate classes.
GCU students grabbed the top two positions in the Pre-Medical group, one in Pre-Engineering group, two positions in the General Science group and all three positions of in the Humanities (boys) group. GCU's Muhammad Ali Aun topped the results in all groups.
Of the total 141,467 students who appeared in the exams, 73,501 passed, bringing the pass percentage to 51.96, while last year's percentage was 51.54 percent. The results were announced at a ceremony organised by the BISE. The BISE Lahore chairman was the chief guest, while Controller of Examinations Prof Manzurul Hassan Niazi was also present at the ceremony.
Top three position holders of all the groups were given cash rewards and medals. Those who stood first in their groups were given Rs 20,000 and a gold medal, those securing the second positions got Rs 15,000 and a silver medal, those in the third place were given Rs 10,000 and a bronze medal. Moreover, the overall topper was given Rs 20,000, a gold medal and a Pentium 4 computer.
Overall toppers: According to the result gazette, the overall topper was GCU's Muhammad Ali Aun with 1,041 marks out of 1,100, Samran Asim of the same university stood second with 1,031 marks. A student of KIPS Intermediate College, Johar Town, Maryam, came in third place with 1,030 marks.
Position holders in Pre-Medical: In the Pre-Medical (boys) group, Muhammad Ali Aun and Samran Asim of GCU stood first and second with 1,041 and 1,031 marks, respectively, while the third position was shared by three students – Noman Khadim of Punjab College of Science, GCU's Muhammad Junaid Alvi and Rana Adil Farman by securing 1,020 marks each.
In the Pre-Medical (girls) group, Maryam of KIPS Intermediate College, Johar Town stood first with 1,030 marks, while the second position was shared by two students of the Government Kinnaird College for Women – Izzah Javed and Maryam Afzal – by securing 1,029 marks. Afra Ahmad of Kinnaird College stood third with 1,026 marks.
Position holders in Pre-Engineering: In the Pre-Engineering (boys) group, Hassan Iftikhar of Forman Christian College University (FCCU) stood first by securing 1,021 marks, while the second position was shared by three students – Muhammad Umar of GCU, Saqib Muhammad of Sufa Educational Complex Higher Secondary (Boys), Ayub Park, Okara and Hammad Shakil of FCCU – by securing 1,020 marks each. Saud Ahmed of Superior College for Boys, Jawad Avenue stood third with 1,019 marks.
In the Pre-Engineering (girls) group, the first position was shared by two students –Sumaiyya Farooq of Lahore College for Women University (LCWU), Jail Road, Lahore and Hafiza Sidra Iqbal of District Public School and College for Girls, Officers Colony, Kasur – by securing 1,012 marks. Maryam Aslam of LCWU stood second with 1,010 marks. The third position was also shared by two students of the Punjab College for Women, Muslim Town, Lahore by securing 1,009 marks.
Position holders in General Science group: In this group, Muhammad Usman of Punjab College of IT, Muslim Town got the fist position by securing 972 marks, while Bilal Fayyaz of GCU stood second with 962 marks and Ahmed Manzoor of GCU got the third position with 956 marks.
In the General Science (girls) group, Marhaba Nemat of Kinnaird College stood first with 1,010 marks, Zoha Qamar of Punjab College for Women, Muslim Town second with 995 marks and Sadia Yaqoob of the same college stood third with 988 marks.
Toppers in Commerce group: In the Commerce (boys) group, Mohsin Ibrar, a private candidate, secured the first position by scoring 953 marks, while a student of Superior College of IT and Management, Garden Town, Lahore, Jehanzeb, stood second with 952 marks. Adnan Ali of Peak Solution College of IT, Ghazi Road, Lahore Cantt stood third with 938 marks. In the Commerce (girls) group, Shahnaz Bashir of Superior College for Women, Jawad Avenue, Okara got the first position by securing 973 marks, while a student of the same college, Bushra Anwar, stood second with 966 marks. The third position was bagged by Sidra Karamat of Ravi College for Women, Baghbanpura, Lahore by securing 962 marks.
Toppers in Humanities group: In the Humanities (boys) group, the top three positions were bagged by students of GCU Lahore. Mubarik Amjad stood first with 957 marks, Imtiaz Afzal second with 944 marks and Hafiz Aitzaz Ahsan third with 926 marks.
In the Humanities (girls) group, Shazmah Najam, a private candidate, stood first with 962 marks, while Mehwish Iram of Government Degree College for Women, Kot Radha Kishan, Kasur stood second with 953 marks. Mahek Tanveer of Hazarat Ayesha Siddiqua Model College for Women, Nicholson Road, Lahore got the third position by securing 943 marks.
