Women have bright future in education: PU VC

Lahore: 09 March: Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran has said that the future of women is bright in the field of education. He was addressing the participants of walk arranged by Punjab University Department of Gender Studies to commemorate Int’l Women’s Day here at New Campus on Thursday. Chairperson Department of Gender Studies Prof Dr Samar Fatima led the walk in which Dr Raana Malik, Faiza Tayyab, Sohail Sattar and a large number of female and male students participated. Addressing the participants, Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran said according to the current tendency, the number of female students was increasing in varsity and the women had outnumbered men in the cadre of lecturers. He said that the map of Punjab University was likely to change after 10 to 15 years. He said that the number of female administrator’s could be increased. He said that violence on women existed in all the countries but in America wives were being tortured more than in any other country. Later the Vice-Chancellor also inaugurated Women Gala at the department and visited 74 stalls of books, fabrics, jewellary, skin care, handmade greeting cards, decoration items, garments, women awareness, food and others, set up by the students and NGOs. An overwhelming response has been received from the public and private sector. He lauded the female students for successful arrangements. Meanwhile, Institute of Education and Research also organized seminar regarding int’l women day which was presided over by acting director Prof Dr Muhammad Saeed Shahid to throw light on the importance of women in society. Prof Dr Saeed Shahid said that women constituted over half of our population and their role can’t be denied.
