Walk held to create awareness on dengue

Rawalpindi:September 02:A good number of students of different schools of Punjab institutions in Rawalpindi organised a Dengue Protection Walk from Islamia College No.1, Liaquat Bagh, to the office of ‘The News’, Rawalpindi.
MPA Ziaullah Shah led the walk. Education Officer, Zulfikar Shah, Principal of Islamia College No.1 and other health officials of Rawalpindi district also participated in the walk.
Carrying placard and banners inscribed with slogans of demands for controlling dengue, the school children showed great enthusiasm. Talking to ‘The News’ MPA Ziaullah Shah said that the Punjab government is determined to adopt effective measures for eradicating the disease of dengue. Special directives have been issued to all officials in the allied hospitals for adopting measures to cure the affected patients on priority basis.
They have been directed to create hygienic atmosphere all over their health units. The concerned local government departments, civic bodies and the city district governments in Punjab have been directed to carry on work of spray in every locality to prevent the spread of dengue mosquitoes, he added.
The staff of the Water and Sewerage Agency (Wasa) on the directions of its Managing Director, Raja Shaukat Mahmood, visited different localities in union councils and carried out spray work which was supervised by Assistant Director, Umar Farooq. Talking to ‘The News’ Umar Farooq said that though it is not the duty of Wasa but still in the best interest of the citizens, the agency is carrying out spray work in all localities, gardens, plants and parks to prevent the spread of dengue mosquitoes. As a result of which, good results are being achieved and there is no danger like situation in Rawalpindi compared to other parts of Punjab, he added.The news.
