Students again take to streets

Chakwal, Jan 06: Having left high and dry by the Punjab government, the students of intermediate classes here on Thursday took to the streets and urged Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry to take suo motu notice and save their academic future.

The students complained that the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education did not give them marks of objective papers which had severely affected their career. The board in its revised results cancelled the objective papers and decided that the marks obtained by students in the objective papers in Part II would be considered as the marks for the Part 1 papers. However, the students termed this policy 'highly ridiculous and cruel'.

Hundreds of students from the Government Postgraduate College, Govt College for Women and District Public School reached Bhoun Chowk and blocked the road. They chanted slogans against the government, BISE and elected representatives. "Many of us had scored good marks in the objective papers of Part 1. What will happen if we do not get good marks in Part II," a student said. The students were of the view that the new policy would also become a hurdle in their admission to universities. They said due to cancellation of Part 1 objective papers, they could not get high marks necessary for taking admission to reputed universities.

They also accused the administration of their colleges for not taking the issue seriously. Dawn.
