Rawalpindi:January 28:When someone does well in an undertaking, whether it is sports, education, a job or any other activity, which requires an effort by mind or body, it is gratifying and encouraging if they are recognised by their peers or superiors. Students specially appreciate this recognition and are motivated to excel even further in their endeavour to bring a good name to their institution and make their parents proud.
To this end a ceremony was held on Wednesday at the Senior Section, SLS School and Montessori, Lalazar branch to honour the students of the Class of 2011-2012 who excelled in the FBISE Board examinations.
Attended by the students and their parents, the ceremony was presided over by the Managing Director, SLS, Asiya Talha. Addressing the gathering of students and their parents, principal, Shaista Quamber said it was a delightful occasion for her — something which was to have taken place earlier, but due to unavoidable circumstances had to be delayed — an occasion when the extraordinary efforts of the students and their guides and mentors, the teachers is acknowledged.
“In today’s competitive world, academic success is just one of the stepping-stones leading to a secure future.” she said. “Here at SLS, this is also one the facets that is constantly polished with the help of a dedicated team of teachers so that when our students sit for their first competitive exams at the SSC-I level they are ready to do their best. I am also extremely proud of the fact that nearly ninety per cent of the students whose success we are recognising are students who have been studying with us since the Montessori level — truly a part of the SLS family,” Shaista Quamber added.
“In order to encourage students, at SLS we have a system of monthly scholarships which are given to those students who maintain a high percentage in the term exams. These scholarships are given on a monthly basis from Class VI onwards to students who attain more than 80% marks. I am very happy to say that last year in this branch we have given nearly Rs100,000 as scholarships to students and that every year this number keeps on increasing. Furthermore, position winners in the Board exams will be given handsome monetary prizes of up to Rs50, 000 and these, let me emphasise, are prizes we will be more than happy to give out,” she said.
Shaista Quamber said but success is not just to get money. “I always believe that success is simple when you do what’s right, the right way, at the right time. Also that success in any venture can only be achieved if one is ready to believe in ones capabilities — one of the most important aspects in building any successful venture,” she added.
She said that one of the most satisfying feelings for a teacher or for that part anyone connected with education, is when a child that you have been associated with comes back to meet you as a successful young man or woman. Students from SLS are spread all over the world, have gone on to study in the most prestigious of institutions, are successful entrepreneurs or professionals excelling in their respective fields and I am happy to think that a small part of their success is due to the fact that they have been a part of the SLS family, she said.
Shaista Quamber said: “The students whose achievements we are acknowledging today are have taken a stepping stone to their future. A future that will, Insha Allah be bright and successful and one that will continue to bring laurels to them. Remember that each and every one of you will remain very dear to us and will always be remembered.”The news.
