BAHAWALPUR:January 26: Rioting and firing started at Islamia University Bahawalpur’s Baghdadul Jadeed Campus on Wednesday when some outsiders, including a proclaimed offender, stormed the campus and harassed security officers as well as IUB Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Mukhtar.
The police as usually reached the campus when the miscreants had fled while firing in the air. However, a police team led by City DSP Raja Ghulam Abbas rounded up three students of the English and Commerce departments.
The IUB Academic Staff Association has strongly condemned the incident and demanded immediate detention of culprits. On Wednesday, students of Computer Sciences, English and Commerce departments started protest for the restoration of Ghazanfar Soni and a female student who were expelled and suspended on the charge of misconduct one and a half month ago. After hearing about the protest, IUB Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Mukhtar reached Baghdad Campus and held talks with the protesters. Meanwhile, miscreants resorted to aerial firing and threatened the VC as well as security officials. A spokesman for the university said that they had lodged a complaint with the Baghdadul Jadeed police and waiting for the registration of the case.The news.
