Replies sought in plea against school trips

Lahore:November 29:Justice Ijazul Ahsan of the Lahore High Court on Monday sought replies from the federal and Punjab governments on a writ petition seeking an order to restrain all schools from taking students of less than 10-year-old out of city on recreational trips.

After hearing initial arguments of the petitioner, the judge directed a deputy attorney general and an assistant advocate general to seek replies from the governments and submit the same in the court within three weeks.

Advocate Muhammad Azhar Siddique filed this petition in the backdrop of Kallar Kahar incident wherein around 37 students and others lost their lives due to criminal negligence of the school administration and authorities concerned.

The lawyer said it was a matter of deep concern for him and for the parents of the children.

He said private schools were minting money from parents of the students for taking them on picnics.

Petitioner said private schools were playing a major role in imparting education but they were also required to be kept under microscopic observation so that no mismanagement could take place and lives of students might not be at risk in future. He prayed to the court that all schools particularly private be restrained from taking the students under 10 years of age on out of city tours. And the authorities should be directed to issue instructions in this regard to the schools, he added.

Sapna case: The Lahore High Court chief justice on Monday issued notice to PML-N MPA Dost Muhammad Khosa on an application of Missal Khan, father of Sapna Khan, ex-wife of Khosa, to become a necessary party in a pending petition for the recovery of his daughter.

Missal had filed the application, through his counsel Muhammad Azhar Siddique, in the main petition filed for recovery of Sapna Khan from alleged custody of Khosa.

Sapna’s sister, Hina Khan, had already filed an affidavit in the court. Now her father approached the court to become a party in the case. The next hearing of the case would be held in the second week of December. In this case, Dost Khosa had already admitted that he had married actress Zeba Khan alias Sapna Khan, however, divorced her later.The news.
