PML-N MNA’s degree in question

LAHORE:25 September : Justice Nasir Saeed Sheikh of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday issued a notice to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on a petition seeking disqualification of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MNA Salman Mohsin Gilani for possessing a fake degree. The judge issued notices to the ECP and the respondent MNA for the second week of October. The petition was moved by Naseem Mahmood Hotiana, a Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) candidate who was defeated in NA-165, Pakpattan. He alleged that Gilani had contested the 2008 general election on the basis of a fake degree. He said an inquiry conducted by the Higher Education Commission had also proved his degree fake. Hotiana said that a case had also been registered against the respondent MNA on the direction of the Election Commission. He requested the court to invoke the relevant provisions of articles 62 and 63 of the constitution and direct the ECP to immediately de-notify the respondent and order fresh election in the constituency.Daily Times.
