PMA moves court against high fee’

LAHORE:February 12: PAKISTAN Medical Association (PMA) has filed a writ petition in Lahore High Court through its Joint Secretary Dr Salman Kazmi on the ‘unfair’ fee of Rs 500,000 being charged from medical students at Shaikh Zayed Medical College, Lahore.

According to a press release issued by PMA here on Saturday, Shaikh Zayed Medical College Lahore is the only government sector medical college working in Lahore under the federal government which is charging Rs 500,000 annually as fee which is equal to the fee in private medical colleges. All other government medical colleges in Lahore under the control of provincial government are charging 14,000 to 30,000 rupees as fee annually. The PMA has made the Secretary Cabinet Division and others as respondents in the petition and prayed to honorable court to declare the fee of 500,000 rupees as illegal and direct the authorities to decrease the fee to the fee being charged at other govt. medical colleges as it was discrimination with the students of Shaikh Zayed Medical College Lahore. It is worth mentioning that the PMA’s demand to reconsider the fee and make it equal to govt. sector was pending with the cabinet secretary, Cabinet Division, government of Pakistan, who was reluctant to take a decision on the matter. A meeting of parents of medical students studying at the medical college has been called on February 12 at PMA House, 66-Ferozpur Road, Lahore.
PMA has appealed to parents to attend the meeting and also take part in the proceedings of the petition. The news.
