Bahawalpur: 24 Jan: Islamia University Bahawalpur (IUB) has announced that Eight public sector universities signed a historic MoU for educational development, first ever of its kind in Pakistan at Islamia University of Bahawalpur today. This significant document relates to the set up of inter-university consortium for development of social sciences, arts and humanities. These institutes include Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, University of Gujrat, Gujrat, Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur, Sindh, Government College University, Faisalabad, University of Balochistan, Quetta, Institute of Management Sciences, Peshawar, Bahauddin Zikiya University, Multan and the Islamia University of Bahawalpur. The areas of cooperation under the consortium will include faculty development/exchange as adjunct faculty members, exchange of students & publications, joint research projects, joint linkages with other international & national organizations, joint seminars/conferences & workshops, diploma course on civic/human rights education and other programs of mutual interest. On this occasion, Excutive Director, Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, Prof. Dr. S. Sohail H. Naqvi and Chairman National Commission for Social Sciences, Dr. Naseer Ali Khan particularly visited Islamia University of Bahawalpur to witness this momentous ceremony. Those who signed the MoU include Prof. Dr Muhammad Mukhtar, Vice Chancellor, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur, Prof. Dr. Masoom Yasinzai, Vice Chancellor, Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nizamuddin, Vice Chancellor, University of Gujrat, Prof Dr. Abdullah Phulpoto, Pro Vice Chancellor, Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur Sindh, Prof. Dr. Zakir Hussain, Vice Chancellor, Government College University, Faisalabad, Prof. Dr. Khawaja Muhammad Alqama, Vice Chancellor, Bahauddin Zikiya University, Multan, Dr. Muhammad Mohsin Khan, Acting Director, Institute of Management Sciences, Peshawar, Prof. Dr. S. Sohail H. Naqvi, Executive Director, Higher Education Commission, Pakistan, Islamabad and Dr. Nasser Ali Khan, Chairman, National Commission on Development of Social Sciences, Pakistan. The academia, scholars, members of civil society and dignitaries from social and political circles has termed this development as a catalyst for the progress of higher education in the country. With the setup of this consortium the sector of social sciences will be strengthened and this initiative will produce far reaching results for the development of higher education.
