LAHORE:23 September :THE Young Doctors Association (YDA) Pakistan pointed out that a real time PCR Machine worth millions of rupees, which had been installed at the Pathology Department of King Edward Medical University on 23rd of January 2010, was just like a white elephant since not even a single test of Hepatitis had been done on it for the last two years.
YDA office-bearers Dr Rana Sohail, Dr Salman Kazmi, Dr Talha Sherwani, Dr Ghulam Qasim, Dr Murtaza Bloch, Dr Muhammad Khawar Khan, Dr Shahid Dreshik, Dr Waqas Gondal, Dr Khuda Bukhsh, Dr Asim, Dr Shams, Dr Muhammad Azhar and Dr Muhammad Amjad have informed the media that thousands of Hepatitis patients have been forced to go to private laboratories to get their test done despite the availability of machine at the Pathology Laboratory of KEMU. The machine was inaugurated by Hamza Shahbaz Sharif, MNA, just two years ago. The incompetent administration of KEMU has not even bothered to get the machine operative for the test of Hepatitis patients despite the fact that every 10th individual is a Hepatitis B or C positive.
They demanded the Chief Minister direct the Vice Chancellor KEMU to start the free of cost test of the Hepatitis on this machine and purchase kits for this.
