LAHORE:January 22:The Government College University’s Endowment Fund Trust (GCU-EFT), Lahore, has raised an amount of Rs 10 million for the deserving students to help them bear their academic charges.
The amount was raised at a fundraiser chaired by the Punjab governor and Old Ravian Sardar Muhammad Latif Khosa. GCU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Khaleeq ur Rahman, EFT President Iqbal Z Ahmad, Secretary Dr Khalid Manzoor Butt and noted businessmen from all over the country also attended the annual fundraiser.
Speaking on the occasion, the Punjab governor said that the nations the world over had made progress after developing their educational institutions but, unfortunately, in Pakistan, education was not given due priority. He said endowment fund trust of Harvard University, US alone stood at $ 32 billion, and this was what had made America a superpower.
He said student unions inculcate awareness into students and played effective role in their character building.
It was the Bukhari Auditorium of the GC University which had taught him the art of public speaking and tolerance to face criticism, he said. “This is where I am hooted and appreciated.”
GCU VC Prof Khaleeq said the university Endowment Fund had swelled to Rs 128 million with the efforts of Old Ravians. He said he wanted to provide free education to all GCU students but, unfortunately, resources did not allow him. However, he added, despite all the budgetary deficits, he had slashed the university fee by 35 percent and hostels charges by almost 50 percent.
He said the university was also giving financial aid to students from its own budget. The GCU-EFT would also give away 11 golden and 15 silver scholarships to students this year, he said and added that each golden scholarship covers the hostels and university fee of a student.
GCU EFT Secretary Prof Khalid Butt said the Endowment Trust Fund never spent the principal amount but the profit they earned from the amount. Iqbal Z. Ahmad announced a donation of Rs 2 million to the GCU Endowment Fund for initiating two life-time golden scholarships for deserving students, saying that new initiatives were being taken to further strengthen this trust. The new initiatives included a plan to involve foreign NGOs and embassies in their donor network, he said. The GCU-EFT, he added, was also planning to hold fundraisers in Karachi, the UAE and the UK.
PU form: Punjab University has issued schedule for submission of admission fee and forms for BEd (Special Needs), 2nd Annual Exam 2010 (session 2009-10) and Annual Exam 2011 (session 2010-11).
The last date for submission of admission forms with single fee is January 31, 2012 while the forms can be submitted with double fee till February 3. The exam will commence from Feb 15.
PU results: Punjab University Examinations Department on Saturday announced the results of two different examinations.
These exams Postgraduate Diploma in Interior Design, Semester System, Session 2008-09, Postgraduate Diploma in Multimedia Production Arts, Development Support Communication and Television Communication and Production, Semester System, Session 2007.
