LAHORE:March 10:A THREE-DAY Book Fair 2012 organised by Government College University (GCU) under its Library Society concluded on Friday. Government College University spokesman said the Library Society’s survey on the closing day revealed that students purchased over 21,101 books out of their pocket money from the Book Fair housing more than 250,000 books on various subjects.
GCU Vice Chancellor Prof Muhammad Khaleeq-ur-Rahman also purchased a large of books on literature, physics and religion, saying reading and writing was a Muslim tradition. “Read” is the first commandment of Allah for Muslims in the Holy Quran.
Addressing the closing ceremony, Government College University Chief Librarian Abdul Waheed said the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) monitored both the number and type of books published per country per year as an important index of standard of living and education, and of a country’s self-awareness.

The event aimed to promote modern and model dairy farming was organised by the Faculty of Animal Production and Technology (FAPT) in collaboration with the Punjab Livestock Dairy Development Department.
