GCU holds music concert

LAHORE:January 25:GOVERMENT College University (GCU) on Tuesday organised a music concert to pay tribute to the music maestro Prof Tariq Suleman Khan Farani for his 40-year invaluable services for the art, music and varsity.

Renowned musicians and singers Ustad Hamid Ali Khan, Ustad Shuakat Ali, Shafqat Amanat Ali, Jawad Ahamd, Musarrat Abbass, Zaheer Abbass, Imran Jafferi and Ghulam Ali also addressed the ceremony.

Government College University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khaleeq-ur-Rahman awarded Prof Farani “GCU Award”, “Certificate of Appreciation” and cash award of Rs 50,000, saying Prof Farani had selflessly devoted his life to the music and Government College University.

Classical Singer Ustad Hamid Ali Khan said GCU’s Nazir Ahmad Music Society (GCU-NAMS) was the biggest teaching centre of music and art in Pakistan, as it produced galaxy of stars for Pakistan like Shafqat Amanat Ali, Ali Zafar, Waris Baig, Jawad Ahmad, adding his two sons had been trained in music at Government College University NAMS by Prof Farhani.

Shafqat Amanat Ali declared legendary Prof Farani as his mentor who showed the world renowned singers light and helped them to climb the ladder of stardom. “I will always be indebted to Farani Sahib,” Shafqat said.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Punjab government has banned music concerts by educational institutions. However, the Government College University spokesperson said that Tuesday’s event was not entirely a music concert rather an event organised to pay tribute to varsity’s music maestro Prof Farani.The news.
