Lahore, Jan 23: Punjab Governor/Chancellor Sardar Latif Khan Khosa has approved the appointment of Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran as vice chancellor of Punjab University, it is learnt. Dr Kamran's name for the post was recommended by Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif through a summary moved to the governor/chancellor a couple of days back.
Sources said on Saturday the Governor's House sent back the summary, approving Dr Kamran as the PU VC. The Chief Minister's Secretariat will send the summary to Punjab Higher Education Department to formally issue the notification for Dr Kamran's appointment.
It is important to mention here that Dr Mujahid Kamran's four-year term as PU VC had expired on January 2, 2012 and since then he has been serving as acting VC of the varsity.
An official of Governor's House, seeking anonymity, confirmed approval of Dr Kamran's name for the post of PU VC.
Meanwhile, Governor Sardar Latif Khan Khosa has said that the wishful thinking of some elements will not bring forth the desired results as all the institutions are working in their respective constitutional ambit.
Talking to media person after addressing a conference here on Saturday, the governor said the Senate elections would be held on time and all speculations regarding it would prove wrong.
To a query about PTI chief Imran Khan's demand for declaration of assets, Khosa said Imran should first bring his own children back to the country. Khosa also voiced serious concern over deaths of patients in Punjab Institute of Cardiology and said that he had sought report on the incident.
