Lahore : February 03:PAPERS of Science and Islamiat/Ethics and Nazra Quran were held on Thursday in the ongoing grade-5 annual examination 2012 across the province under the Punjab Examination Commission (PEC).
There were reports of cheating at various examination centres and it is learnt the authorities also removed a Superintendent deputed at a centre on Jail Road for alleged failure to ensure transparency in the conduct of the exam.
Meanwhile, confusion prevailed in connection with papers scheduled for Saturday (today), as the Punjab government had announced a public holiday on Saturday (February 4) on the occasion of Eid Milad-un-Nabi throughout the province. It may be mentioned that Eid Milad-un-Nabi is falling on Sunday.
Papers of Science and Islamiat/Ethics and Nazra Quran, Social Studies and Urdu are scheduled for Saturday. However, it was not clear till filing of the report that whether the exams would be held as per schedule or would be postponed owing to the holiday.
PEC Manager Operations Malik Iqbal said the Commission would follow the instructions of Secretary School Education Department in this regard. However, The News could not access Secretary Schools Muhammad Aslam Kamboh despite repeated attempts on his cell phone.
A number of parents of students condemned the government for not clearing confusion surrounding the conduct of the ongoing examination.
