BISEs told to explain away fiasco

LAHORE, Nov 5: The Lahore High Court on Friday sought reports from all boards of intermediate and secondary education in Punjab about the causes of failure of “Online System” and also the measures being taken to facilitate the aggrieved students.

Earlier, the court was informed that the online system had been abolished and the manual system restored in the boards of intermediate and secondary education.

Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed remarked that as to why suffering was caused to the students and their parents if this online system had to face a failure. The judge said the inefficiency and negligence on part of the boards forced the students to come on roads.

“These students are our future but they were made to endure ill experiments of the government,” the judge remarked.

The counsel for the boards told the court that the government had constituted a judicial commission to probe the matter.

Advocate Muhammad Azhar Siddique, the petitioner, stated that the commission was tasked to inquire into the prevailing fiasco but the court was hearing a case which covered many other important aspects also before the introduction of online system.

Justice Saeed adjourned further hearing till Dec 12 and observed that the court could not allow the government to play with the future of students.

The judge was hearing a petition against online system and miseries of the students and their parents. The petitioner was of the view that the online system violated fundamental rights especially articles 9 and 25-A of the Constitution.

He also said former secretary education Ahad Cheema, who introduced this online system, was made district coordination officer and his failure remained unchecked. He said an immediate action was required to save the students from any agitational politics and to get their future education.Dawn.
