110,000 laptops to be distributed among students by March: CM

Lahore :January 31: CHIEF Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said distribution of 110,000 laptops would be completed by March while 300,000 laptops will be distributed among the talented students next year at a cost of Rs12 billion.

He was addressing the inaugural ceremony of the project of distribution of laptops to the students at Punjab University here on Monday.

Shahbaz said the Punjab government’s programme of distribution of laptops would provide a strong basis to the country, eliminate hunger and poverty and strengthen agriculture and industrial sectors. The chief minister said he was very pleased to be at the function held to acknowledge the hard work and commitment of brilliant students at a prestigious educational institution of the country. He said it was a historic day as the project of distribution of 110,000 laptops among the students first time in the history of the country was being formally inaugurated and the process would be complete by March. He said the project would spread knowledge from Attock to Rahimyar Khan and translate the dreams of Iqbal and Quaid into reality. He said the purpose of holding the inaugural ceremony was to recognise the hard work and dedication of the brilliant students and their parents and teachers. The CM said Pakistan was achieved after innumerable sacrifices but despite the passage of 64 years it was still facing various problems and crises. He said Pakistan of Quaid was disintegrated in 1971 but no lesson was learnt from the tragedy.

The CM said the country was in darkness and the energy crisis had left negative impact on industrial, trade, agriculture and other sectors. He said a corrupt government was in power and the sooner the nation got rid of it the better it would be for the country. He said Pakistan on the one hand was a nuclear power while on the other hand, its rulers were running about with a begging bowl. He said the foreigners threw a few pennies in the begging bowl and force rulers to obey their commands which was intolerable for a living nation. Citing the example of Germany, he said that it was totally devastated in the World War II but after 50 years of hard work, it had again become a strong economy.

He said that during his recent visit to Germany, he was impressed by the German leadership that though Pakistanis was a poor nation but they had honour and dignity and wanted trade rather aid and technology. CM said time had come for the nation to follow the golden principle of work, work and work for progress. He said the Punjab government under the leadership of Nawaz Sharif was following a comprehensive programme of development of the province. He said the new generation was the guarantee to a glorious future of the country; therefore, such steps had been taken for the uplift of education sector as were unprecedented in the history of the country.

Shahbaz said that besides the students of Punjab, brilliant students of other provinces would also be given laptops. He said that just as scholarships were being given to the students of other provinces from the Punjab Educational Endowment Fund similarly talented students of other provinces were also being included in the programme of distribution of laptops. The news.
