Lahore:June 16:Government College University (GCU) organised a seminar in connection with anti-dengue day.
The seminar was chaired by VC Prof Dr Islam Ullah Khan. Similarly, the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) launched a campaign against dengue in connection with the day.
Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) also organised a lecture in which varsity’s medical officer Dr Hafsa talked about preventive measures against dengue.
Health dept: A dengue awareness walk was arranged by Health Department, Punjab from Directorate Health Office to Assembly Hall for observing International Anti-Dengue Day in which officers and employees of Health Department participated. Additional Director General Health Dengue Control Dr Islam Zafar led the walk.
According to a hand out issued here on Monday, Dr Islam Zafar said effective steps are being taken for eradication of dengue at government level and the dengue situation is fully under control in Punjab. He said dengue breed in clean water, therefore, people should take care of cleanliness of their homes and dengue hot spots will have to be eliminated for checking breeding of dengue. He said that accumulation of water at various places, utensils and water tanks are the major source of breeding of dengue.
Therefore, it is necessary that people should keep the utensils covered and not let the water accumulated so that dengue should not breed, he added. He said that community participation is vital in anti-dengue campaign.
CDGL: International Anti-Dengue Day was observed on Monday.
City District Government Lahore (CDGL), Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) and other government departments held seminars, workshops and awareness walks in all nine towns of the city.
A walk led by LWMC officials was held at Liberty Roundabout and attended by senior CDGL officials, Turkish representatives of Albayrak & Ozpak, officials of LWMC and students from educational institutions.
Participants were holding placards carrying informational and inspirational messages about anti-dengue measures.
They raised slogans like “Dengue Ko Maat Safai Ky Sath”. LWMC & Albayrak also set up camps for registration and resolution of waste related complaints and distribution of awareness pamphlets. Senior Manager Operation Suhahil Anwar Malik deployed a team of workers along with machinery to maintenance of clean and neat environment.
walk: In the perception of dengue epidemic season, students, doctors, nurses and paramedical staff of Allama Iqbal Medical College/Jinnah Hospital held a walk on Monday.
AIMC/JHL Principal Prof Mahmood Shaukat and JHL Medical Superintendent Dr Zia Ullah led the walk. The walk started from Administration Block of Jinnah Hospital and participants distributed awareness pamphlets among the public in front of the college and the walk ended at the college auditorium.
After the walk, a seminar regarding awareness of dengue is conducted. Dr Muhammad Jalil Akhtar told the participants about the eradication and elimination of dengue and described the breeding causes of dengue.
Prof Mahmood Shaukat addressing the participants of the walk stressed the role of paramedical staff, horticulture and sanitary staff against dengue.
measures: Postgraduate Medical Institute (PGMI) Principal Prof Dr Anjum Habib Vohra and PGCN College Principal Kosar Parveen urged the young generation to create awareness among the citizens about preventive measures against dengue. They said dengue could be controlled by adopting preventive measures.
“Punjab CM has made commendable efforts for controlling dengue due to which the number of dengue patients has reduced,” they said while talking to journalists at the conclusion of an anti-dengue walk at Shadman Chowk on Monday. The walk started from PGMI 6-Birdwood Road and terminated at Shadman Chowk. Professors, administrative doctors, Principal Nursing School Raisa Ishtiaq, nurses, students of Ameer-ud-Din Medical College and nursing students participated in the walk.
Prof Anjum Habib Vohra said under the vibrant leadership of Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif, Punjab government has taken solid steps to eradicate dengue larva. He said the role of women is very important in the war against dengue.
He urged citizens to maintain cleanliness in their houses, streets and surroundings so that dengue larva could not breed. He stressed citizens to spare some time for this purpose.
