GC University blood donation camp

Lahore:04 May:THE Blood Donor Society (BDS) of Government College University set up a “Blood Donation Camp” on Saturday which drew a huge response from students, especially girls, who donated blood for children suffering from Thalassemia.
The blood, donated at camp, was handed over to Sundus Foundation for safe transfusion to the children suffering from Thalassemia.
As many as 125 students and faculty members donated blood which was held at GCU Faiz Seminar Hall. Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Khaleeq-ur-Rahman and Persian Department Chairperson Dr Zaheer Ahmed Sadiqui visited Blood Donation Camp and appreciated efforts of the BDS members and its Adviser Dr Baber Naseem Aasi for arranging the camp.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor Prof Rahman urged all the students to donate blood and highlighted the importance of voluntary blood donation in protecting precious human lives. He also appreciated the donation of blood by female students.
Sundus Foundation Director Maj (r) Tariq said practice of voluntary blood donation was very low in Pakistan as compared to the European countries and ultimately the sufferers were the patients.
Every year, more than 4,000 Thalassemia affected children are born in Pakistan and they require blood transfusion once or twice a month. In addition to these patients, blood transfusion is also required during surgeries,” he added.The news.
