Education official held for demanding bribes

Lahore:10 January:The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) on Thursday arrested the school education human resource director for East Zone for allegedly using the name of a provincial minister to blackmail and demand around Rs200 million in bribes from teachers to regularise them. The official, Muhammad Hussain Soomro, was arrested by the ACE East Zone on a tip-off. According to a spokesperson for ACE, the suspect was demanding a total of Rs200 million, using the name of Sindh Minister for Anti-corruption, Irrigation and Zakat-o-Ushr Sohail Anwar Siyal for regularising 950 contractual teachers, who had passed written tests to qualify for the job.The spokesperson added that a case was being registered against the school education HR director.
