LAHORE:November 10: A three-day moot concluded here at the Government College University, Lahore with speakers and participants stressing the need for accessible, affordable and inclusive education, effective implementation of laws and speedy justice for all to improve human rights conditions in Pakistan. Human Rights Commission of Pakistan President IA Rehman chaired a policy dialogue at the closing day of the conference titled “Human Rights Challenges and Prospects” which was also addressed by Prof Sajjad Naseer and Dr Farhat Mahmud.

GC University Philosophy Dept turns 150

LAHORE:November 9: The Philosophy Department of Government College University (GCU) has turned 150. In this connection, a large number of students, Old Ravians and faculty members of the department on Thursday participated in an on-campus colorful and jubilant walk, led by Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Hassan Amir Shah, to mark the sesquicentennial anniversary of the oldest Department of Philosophy in the entire South Asia. Eminent writer Mirza Athar Baig also participated in the walk.

LAHORE:28 August: Eminent Italian Philosopher Prof Debora Spini visited the Government College University (GCU) here on Monday and called on Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Hassan Amir Shah. Prof Spini found bright prospects of mutual collaboration between GCU and prestigious Italian universities including Pisa, Florence, Syracuse, Rome and Sant’ Anna School of Advanced Studies especially in the field of Philosophy.

GC University conferred PhD degrees on two female students

LAHORE :05 July: Government College University (GCU) on Wednesday conferred PhD degrees on two immensely determined female students, Aziza Saeed and Kausar Inyat, who despite facing physical challenges completed their research on very novel topics in Urdu Literature. Aziza Saeed is the first visually-impaired student to receive PhD degree from GCU Lahore, while Kausar Inyat has been suffering from brain tumour.

caretaker CM was briefed on performance of two universities

LAHORE :July 3: Punjab Caretaker Chief Minister Dr Hasan Askari Rizvi met Prof Dr Niaz Ahmad Akhtar, Vice-Chancellor of Punjab University and Prof Dr Hassan Amir Shah, Vice-Chancellor of Government College University (GCU) here Monday. In the separate meetings, the caretaker CM was briefed on performance of the two universities. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Hasan said there was a dire need to equip the youth with latest knowledge and added that progress and development was possible with modern education and skills development.

Govt College University VC gets additional charge of Narowal varsity

LAHORE:14 June: Prof Dr Hassan Amir Shah, Vice Chancellor of Govt College University Lahore, has been given additional charge of the post of Vice Chancellor, University of Narowal. A notification in this regard was issued on Wednesday by the Punjab Higher Education Department after the approval of Chancellor/Punjab Governor Malik Muhammad Rafique Rajwana. According to the notification, Prof Hassan Shah will hold the additional charge of the post till the appointment of regular Vice Chancellor at University of Narowal. Prof Shah is an eminent physicist and recipient of Sitara-i-Imtiaz.

Government College University launched a literary magazine

LAHORE:May 12: Government College University’s Quaid-e-Azam Hostel launched a literary magazine “The Quaid” at its silver jubilee celebrations. GCU VC Prof Dr Hassan Amir, Hostel Warden Prof Dr Ahmad Adnan and Superintendent Dr M Nouman Sarwar Qureshi along with the students cut the cake of the celebration. They also unveiled the first edition of “The Quaid”.The news.

Prof Muhammad Afzal donated his personal library to GC University Lahore

Lahore:19 April: Eminent scientist Prof Dr Muhammad Afzal has donated his personal library comprised of valuable publications to the Government College University Lahore for the benefit of students and researchers. According to a press release issued Wednesday, Prof Dr Muhammad Afzal is currently Professor Emeritus at the University of Kuwait. His personal library had very valuable reference books, textbooks, journals, conference proceedings of different scientific subjects including microbiology, biotechnology, and bio-chemistry.

Mental Health Week celebrations began at Govt College University

LAHORE:21 March: In order to promote cultural and religious harmony in the society, Mental Health Week celebrations began on Tuesday at the Government College University (GCU) under the theme “Psychology of Religion and Culture.” GCU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Hassan Amir Shah chaired the inaugural session which included the Inter-Universities Poster Competition. Some 121 psychology students from different institutions took part in the poster competition and displayed posters.

LAHORE :18 March:The three-day sixth international conference on education titled as “Beyond Classroom” concluded at University of Education Speakers at the Ravians Literary Festival at Government College University (GCU) on Saturday highlighted the need to protect tangible and intangible cultural heritage of Lahore. “We understand the change is inevitable but it should not be at the cost of cultural heritage,” said Architect Nayyar Ali Dada while addressing the opening session of the festival on “Evolution of Lahore”.
